SANTO DOMINGO BABYYYYY
BUENOS TARDES A TODOS! Ok ok so much happened this week let's get right into it
(I'm so sorry this email is huge but I just love it so much I can't help myself)
☆Got transfer news on monday night telling me i was going to SANTO DOMINGO EN EL AREA EL BOSQUE literally got off my bed and started jumping uo and down i was so excited
☆Ate cow liver without knowing it was cow liver...low key not bad
☆every lunch they give us steaming hot soup which obviously i eat, but with sweat running down my back and face, its a lovely experience
☆tuesday we stayed sheltered in a house with a family we're teaching because there was so much rain it looked like a hurricane, and yesterday it rained so much that we legitimately were drenched to the bone and my shoes are still squishy and wet haha
☆our friend Alejandro gets baptized next sunday after church and we are all PUMPED!
☆taught a watermelon vender on the side of the street with his wife in rain about baptism while loud trucks past us amd motorcyles sprayed water on us, honestly such a simple missionary moment but i loved it
☆I've never walked so much in life, to the point that I might be getting an infection on the bottom of my feet
☆got locked out of our house and prayed for a miracle and after 30 minutes of waiting and calling, the owner came out of his house and let us in...he was the one that entered our house during the day and locked it wrong
☆where in the absolute world did the month of February go... pretty sure it was the fastest month I've had in my mission
☆my comp is HERMANA SALINAS!!! I literally have been praying to be her comp for weeeeeks and me dreams came true. She's from Peru and is 21 yrs old and absolutely the cutest person ever, we're constantly learning so much from each other about how to contact and teach better and honestly I'm just so genuinely excited for this transfer with her!!!
☆we've met so many couples that aren't married where the women are 20 yrs old and the men are 60-70 yrs old...very common here and really disturbing
☆Carnaval started a couple days ago and ends tomorrow! Its a big holiday here and in other south american countries where for several days theres just people in the streets that have foam spray, buckets of water, water guns, dark paint, eggs amd flour, and are more than happy to drench anyone that comes in they're path. Everyone said rhat it was gonna be suuuper intense here in Santo domingo but honestly I'm suprised how chill its been. Trust me there are plenty of people playing it, and we've had to cross the street a couple times and avoid houses while contacting because they have those buckets filled to the brim with water and are ready with their foam spray💀
☆I headed allll the way back to Quito for leadership conference, just to travel allll the way back tomorrow for zone conference on Wednesday...if anyone knows me, they know i get super car sick but now imagine in a big but that smells like sweat and strong colone on windy roads, not my favorite experience, asà en la misión verdad?
SPIRITUAL!
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says,
"Rejoice evermore.
Pray without ceasing.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
This is so simple but SO absolutely true. Being in Santo Domingo this week has been the most humbling experience for me. Our area is absolutely huge so yesterday we had to travel a ways to pick up our friends for church, we picked up an older couple we're teaching who works in a field all day long and don't have a lot of money, barely enough to pay for buses, but they we're so extremely happy and willing to make the sacrifice to go to church. When we visited then on Saturday I promised them that if they come, they will be able to see miracles in their job and family. I just remember picking them up and they we all ready in their church clothes and flip flops and my heart was just jumping for joy. I don't think I've ever been so humbled before but I've never been so happy in the work of the Lord, sweating my guts out and walking my feet off everyday, knowing I'm serving the Lord with all my heart. Gotta give it all I got, right? So just like this scripture says, we need to REJOICE without ceasing because GOD IS GOOD!!!!
Look for the tender mercies this week that are all around you!!
Xoxo,
